A maker of pre-engineered metal building systems plans to establish a new manufacturing facility in southern Colorado.

Armstrong Steel, based in the Denver suburb of Englewood, will invest $15 million in an industrial park on Pueblo’s far south side, the Pueblo Chieftain reports.

The company makes metal and steel structures and ships them across the globe, including sheds and barns, as well as commercial facilities and buildings for religious services. The company said the expansion would strengthen its position in the U.S. market and provide a better environment for its workers. The new facility will feature cutting-edge manufacturing technology and an automated workflow, officials added.

The project is expected to create more than 50 new jobs, and the company expressed excitement about expanding to an area long known for steel production.

“Pueblo has the best workforce in the state and an economic environment that allows companies like Armstrong Steel to grow and succeed,” Armstrong CEO Ethan Chumley told the news outlet. “I am just excited we are bringing steel manufacturing jobs back to the hard-working folks in Pueblo.”

Under an incentive agreement with the city and local economic development officials, Armstrong will employ workers in Pueblo for at least 10 years and receive $1.2 million in city funding for equipment purchases. The company plans to construct the new building itself.

Another metal building maker, Great Western Building Systems of Houston, Texas, announced plans to expand to nearby Pueblo West, Colorado, earlier this year, the Chieftain noted.
