A repurposed metal sign built to promote Chatham-Kent during the 2018 International Plowing Match has found a new home.

The large metal sign made up of the letters “CK” has been made a permanent structure on Enbridge Gas property, on the corner of Keil Drive North and Grand Avenue. The letters have been secured to a concrete base that will be lit up at night.

The “CK” sign was unveiled at its new location during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday.

“This installation is a beautiful example of public-private sector partnership for the development of public art,” said CK Mayor Darrin Canniff in a news release. “When these letters were created for the International Plowing Match, we had always envisioned them being placed permanently somewhere meaningful in Chatham-Kent, and I’m extremely glad to see they’ve been given the home they deserve. I’m thankful to the team at Enbridge for ensuring that the people of CK will be able to enjoy them for years to come.”

According to Enbridge, the location was chosen for its visibility and ample green space, which mitigates any safety concerns for motorists and pedestrians.

“Repurposing [the letters] as a permanent structure adds pride in the community by featuring local art,” said Jim Redford, VP of Energy Services at Enbridge Gas.

Chatham-Kent Council voted to waive any permit fees in April after Enbridge volunteered to display the sign.
